The plant is also herbaceous which means that it loses it leaves and flowers during a time of the year and then they grow back at the next growing season. Herbaceous plants do not have a wood stem like trees.

The bark found on this tree is considered a stem. A wood stem is classified by having a second xylem and is found mainly on trees.

The owl and the tree in this image have a form of mutualism. Mutualism is when two individuals help each other to survive. The owl eats the insects that harm the tree while the tree provides a home to the owl.
