Collection # 2 Myccah

Rhizome. Ginger is a type of rhizome. I took of a picture of ginger while my grandma was cooking dinner. We use ginger for spices to cook. Rhizomes are horizontal plant stems that shoot above the root. They also have a reproductive structure.



















Pollen. There are pollen in all types of flowers. These flowers were in my backyard. Pollen is that coarse powder in seed plants. They produce male gametes. When pollen lands on pistils of flowering plants, they germinate.














Phloem. The picture is of a flower, and I chose to to represent phloems. Phloems are are found in plants. They are vascular plant tissue that consist of living cells. They also transport sugar and organic materials throughout the plant.

Spore. In the picture, the green mucky dark stuff is fungus in a fishtank. I took the picture when i was cleaning out a fish-tank. Spores are single celled asexual reproductive bodies in fungi, bacteria, or nonflowering plants.

Niche. In the picture, Sage (the goat) lives in a type of enviroment that she is comfortable in. Sage is a trained goat because she lives in the type of enviroment where she was taught to be trained. The definition of a niche is the status of the organism in its type of enviroment .
















Pollinator. If you look closely (sorry for the bad photography I'm deathly terrified of bees), you see a bee on a flower. A bee is a type of pollinator. Pollinators are types of vectors (or insects) that move pollen from one flower to another. They help fertilize a plant. They are also the source of cross pollination.

Frond. The picture is of a palm tree. I found this palm tree at work, in one of the greenhouses. A palm tree represents the word frond because the definition means a large divided leaf. Plants like ferns and palm trees match the description of what a frond is.

Mycelium. This is a picture of fungus at one of my friend's backyard. This huge tree had a mushroom sticking out of it. Mushroom is a type of fungus and the word mycelium is the vegetative part of the fungus. Mycelium is a densly branched network of hyphae in the fungus. Hyphae are the threadlike filaments in a fungus.

Insect. This type of insect is a praying mantis. I found it in my friend's backyard. Insects are arthropods that have a 3 part body. That consists of a head, thorax, and abdomen. The praying mantis has all those characteristics of a typical bug.

Keratin. I took a picture of my hand, because my fingernails contain keratin. Keratin is a type of protein found in nails, hair, and skin. It is also the key structure to making an outer layer of human skin. Keratin is tough and insoluble.
