An exoskeleton is an external skeleton that supports an animal's body, as opposed to an internal skeleton of a human. On many occasions, exoskeletons do not provide enough room for an animal to grow, so they must moult their shell. In this picture, I was able to find a beetle in the process of moulting. The exoskeleton is the brown shell that appears to be standing on the black sheet.
