Keratin
Keratin is the key component in making up the outer layer of human skin, hair and nails. Its name refers to a family of fibrous structural proteins. Keratin will also form very strong unmineralized tissues in reptiles, birds, amphibians, and mammals. Here is a picture of human skin and nails.
